An 11-year-old boy was rescued after falling through thin ice on Thanksgiving Day in Shelby Township.

It happened when he was playing hockey with friends at the Crystal Lake apartments near 23 Mile and Dequindre roads. We're told a man tried to help the boy but then he fell through the ice, too.

A younger boy spotted what had happened from his apartment and told his father. The two rescued the two people with a rope, then brought them into their apartment until firefighters arrived.

The younger boy was taken to the hospital. He is expected to be okay.

Battalion Chief Brad Follis from the Shelby Township Fire Department is warning everyone to stay clear of ice, especially in cases where you can't see how thick or thin it is.
