Vigil marks one year since Officer Tom Decker's murder

Posted: Updated:
COLD SPRING, Minn. (KMSP) -

A candlelight vigil will be held at 6 p.m. Friday night outside the Cold Spring City Hall to mark one year since the murder of police officer Tom Decker.

Decker was shot last Nov. 29 while responding to a report of a possibly suicidal man who lived above Winners Bar in Cold Spring.

Ryan Larson was arrested and spent five days in jail before he was cleared. Investigators later announced they had gathered enough evidence to arrest Eric Thomes for Decker's murder, but Thomes took his own life before detectives could interview him.

Although the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension's active investigation is complete, the case will remain open and any new leads will still be investigated.

Anyone with additional information related to the murder of Tom Decker or the actions of Eric Thomes between Decker's murder and Thomes' suicide, is urged to contact the Stearns County sheriff's office at 877-782-5683 or the BCA at 877-996-6222 or bca.tips@state.mn.us
