Good Foods For After Thanksgiving Detox

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Thanksgiving is about indulging and celebrating with friends and family. If you overeat, make sure to do it with some damage control. There are certain foods that you should eat every day (including on Thanksgiving) that will help your body stay optimal. Dr. Mike came to the FOX 29 studios today to talk about some of the great foods we should all include in our diets.

After YOLO, Carpe Diem and lots of wine, foods to consider are broccoli and cabbage. These foods reduce oxidative damage, which alcohol causes in the liver. Dr. Mike also recommends green drinks. For example, use a blender or food processor and put in fruits, Kale, cucumber and ginger to make a healthy drinks. This gives you the much needed fiber and much-desired micronutrients.

Cynar is a drink made from artichokes. Italians call Cynar a digestif, which means something that is served after a meal. There is a scientific reason why. Artichoke increases secretion of bile, says Dr. Mike. The healthful effects help you digest food better and cleanse your colon.

Strawberries are a very good food to eat because it detoxifies your kidneys. Studies have shown, says Dr. Mike, that strawberries reduce the amount of protein in your kidneys.

Ginger also helps your digestion. Flax seed is another wonder food that helps with constipation and gives you Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. Beets are good for your muscles because it provides nitrates. Nitrates are converted into nitric acid, which is used by muscles to power themselves.
