Duluth Mayor Don Ness is refusing to accept a $20,000 raise in his salary approved by the city council Monday night.
"After a long and prayerful night, Laura and I have decided not to accept the pay raise passed by the city council last night," Ness posted on Twitter.
The mayor's salary would have jumped from $78,000 to $97,500, marking the first pay raise for the position in 14 years. Ness said he would rather see the mayor's salary addressed when his term expires.
The money budgeted for the pay raise will stay in the city's general fund.
