Turkey And Other Thanksgiving Tips

Posted: Updated:

Thanksgiving is coming up this week! Jenn Fred is at Wegmans to learn some tips to help you with Thanksgiving cooking and other things.

When do you defrost your turkey? Today! If you have a frozen turkey, remember the motto, 24 hours for every five pounds. Therefore, most turkeys need to be put in the sink today to get them ready for Thursday. Some stores at Wegman's do have fresh Turkeys that you can buy the night before.

A common question is about stuffing. Do you put it inside the bird or outside? Definitely outside, says experts. You want to make sure everything cooks to 165 degrees. Stuffing the bird does not guarantee that the food will get to that temperature inside the bird's cavity. Cook the stuffing in a pan 30 to 40 minutes outside of the turkey, then put it into the turkey.

Use a digital thermometer, says the expert, don't just rely on "pop up." Also, measure the turkey in at the thickest part of the bird.

So what if you don't want to make anything? What if you want to chillax? The chef at Wegmans recommends that you buy a cooked turkey. It's even carved. If had to make one side item, make the stuffing. After all, everyone has their own recipe. Buy a few kinds of gravy to give people some flavor.

If you're invited to a party, what do you bring? Consider flowers. It's celebratory, and it's calorie free. Flowers can be put anywhere in the house as decoration. Cheese samples work too. And of course, bring beer and alcohol!

Don't forget to ask the host if you can do anything to help.
