Illinois opens central disaster relief facility

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON, Ill. (AP) — Illinois residents affected by the Nov. 17 tornadoes can get access to disaster relief and information at a new facility in the central city of Washington.

More than 20 local and state agencies are staffing the Multi-Agency Resource Center, or MARC.

It opened Saturday at a fitness and community center called Five Points Washington. It's open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Tuesday.

Gov. Pat Quinn calls it a "one-stop shop for people affected by the deadly tornadoes" to get assistance and information on the recovery process.

Quinn has declared 15 counties state disaster areas, opening the door to state resources such as trucks, communications equipment and heavy equipment for debris removal.

More information about disaster recovery resources can be found at www.ready.illinois.gov .
