A husband and wife in Connecticut are standing the test of time - more than eight decades later.

John and Ann Betar are celebrating their 81st wedding anniversary. They say they had a rocky start to their relationship, as Ann's father wanted her to marry another man. John and Ann relocated from Bridgeport, Conencticut to Harrison, New York to elope on November 25, 1932.

Of course everyone's asking the big question - how do you stay happy together for so long?

Ann says: "Well, marriage isn't a lovey-dovey thing, you know, for 80 years, you know. You learn to accept one another's ways of life, agreements, disagreements -- disagreements on our children, preparation on bringing up your kids. That was the main interest was your children."

John then cuts in, saying, "It's only about cooking. It's only about cooking, that's the only arguments we had."

The Associated Press reports the couple was named the 2013 "longest married couple" in the United States by Worldwide Marriage Encounter, a group in San Bernardino, Calif., dedicated to improving Christian marriages.

John is 101 years old and Ann is 97. They have five children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
