PHOENIX (AP) -- A judge denied a request from prosecutors and defense attorneys to ban all journalists from being in the courtroom during the retrial of a man charged with the murders of nine people at a Buddhist temple in metro Phoenix.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Joseph Kreamer also granted a request by TV stations to allow pool video camera coverage of Johnathan Doody's retrial.

Doody is accused of participating in the 1991 slayings at the Wat Promkunaram temple.

He was convicted in 1993, but his conviction was thrown out after a court ruled investigators improperly obtained his confession.

His second trial ended with a mistrial after jurors failed to reach a verdict.

Jury selection for Doody's third trial began Monday.
