Retailers expect competitive shopping season

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Black Friday is just over a week away, but the holiday shopping season is already in full swing. Retailers are pulling out all the stops to get customers in the doors, especially when it comes to consumer electronics.

Consumers are already looking for holiday bargains and retailers know it,

"I can tell you that we'll be very competitive for Black Friday," Ramon Estevez. "This coming week we'll have a lot of promotional items as all retailers will."

The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year is the shortest it's been since 2002. Stores are pushing hot items, primarily big-ticket electronics, to get shoppers in early.

A representative from consumer website dealnews.com said that retailers are trying to create a sense of urgency, using dealbusters like deeply discounted electronics to get shoppers inside.

Stores aren't just competing with one another though, but also with savvy shoppers who search online for deals. That puts even more pressure on stores to get consumers out the door with bags of holiday goodies.
