Chanhassen, Minn., house fire claims family's dog, cat

CHANHASSEN, Minn. (KMSP) -

A Chanhassen, Minn., couple escaped an early morning fire Wednesday, but their dog and cat did not survive.

Firefighters were called to the home on the 4000 block of Leslee Curve at about 5 a.m. after heavy smoke was reported in the area. Officials said the fire started in the basement before spreading to 80 percent of the home.

The Chanhassen fire chief said smoke alarms woke up the homeowners and saved their lives.

Firefighters from Shakopee, Eden Prairie, Chaska and Victoria assisted Chanhassen with the fire response.
