Boxing makes a big return to Target Center and with it will bring one of the biggest names in boxing history on January 3rd former Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson co-promotes the first edition of Friday Night Fights.
USBA Middleweight Champion Caleb Truax (23-1) faces former USBA Champion Derek Ennis (23-4-1) in a 10-round non-title bout in the co-main event. It has been a big year for Truax as he has vaulted himself into the top 10 world rankings. His knockout wins over Don George as well as local middleweight Cerresso Fort.
"He came into his own the last two fights," said Leon Margules of Warrior Boxing. "He was always a talented fighter. Obviously Minnesota is not Philadelphia or Chicago or places where there is a tremendous amount of professional boxing talent, but when Caleb stepped up and stepped out of the local market he fought Jermaine Taylor who was supposed to be an easy touch for Jermaine. Jermaine was life or death and was almost out in the ninth round. I think Caleb learned he had a very educated and world class right hand."
The event promoted by Iron Mike Productions, Seconds Out Promotions and Warriors Boxing will feature a main event for the IBF Super Featherweight Championship between current champion Argenis Mendez (21-2-1) and #1 ranked challenger Rances Barthelemy. Mendez is managed by former Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson, who will reportedly be at ringside for the event. Barthelemy earned his number one challenger status by defeating Thailand's Fahsai Sakkreerin at the Minneapolis Convention Center this past June.
Tickets go on sale Friday November 22nd at 12 noon at the Target Center's Box Office and online at AXS.com.
