Study Examines The Monday Blues

PHILADELPHIA -

A reason for the Monday blues: having too much rest on the weekend.

A new study shows that people who spend a lot of time relaxing feel like they did not have enough time away from work. So what can you do to avoid this?

Have a good time! Researchers say that those who cram in lots of events over the weekend feel like it was even longer than it actually is. Specifically, hectic weekends feel precisely six hours and 19 minutes longer than one spent on the sofa, the study said.

Why? The authors claim it is because we measure time with our memories. When we are active throughout the day rather than sitting around, days off seem longer because we form more distinct episodic memories.

The study was done for the ticket agency StubHub and polled 2,000 people.
