5 questions to ask before breaking up

Posted: Updated:

According to Dr. Ruth, couples are twice as likely to end their relationship during winter months.  But before you make any hasty decisions, Fox 9 Relationship Expert, Adrienne Laursen, LMFT, wants you to take a moment to consider your options using her "break-up checklist".

{These tips pertain to relationships that are void of abuse, addiction, or consistent infidelity.}

There are many reasons couples breakup:  loss of sexual attraction, lack of communication, a change in future goals, etc.  So often, couples don't put the required effort into resolving these issues, and choose the path of least resistance - breaking up or divorce.

Whatever the reason you may be having doubt in your relationship or marriage, consider these checklist items before making the decision to end it.  Relationship issues can usually (not always) be improved if you're willing to work at it.

1.       Is there someone else?

2.       Is there any hope left for you?

3.       Have you given the relationship your best effort?

4.       Does your partner know you're having concerns?

5.       Have you envisioned life without your partner!
