LAUSD Promotes Healthy Living, Just 'Move It!'

Los Angeles Unified will be hosting a 5k run at Dodger Stadium on Saturday to promote healthy living among everyone in the city. This is the first LAUSD 5K Move It Challenge and Health Festival.

It will be held at Dodger Stadium on Nov. 16, 2013. Up to 10,000 students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate to raise awareness about the importance of healthy living and exercise.

Students who participate will not be only to raise money for their own schools but funds raised from the 5K will also benefit LAUSD's Wellness Centers. The LAUSD Wellness Centers are open and ready to serve our students District-wide, their families and the surrounding communities, offering health and wellness programs and services, along with primary prevention education, connection to career pathway programs and parent education across the LAUSD community.

Currently, LAUSD has twelve (12) full-service Wellness Centers across the District, with two (2) additional centers opening in early 2014.

At LAUSD...

27% of our students are uninsured and 44% are enrolled in Medi-Cal.

1 in 4 students is obese and 1 in 30 will develop type 2 diabetes before they graduate.
