ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KMSP) -

Dan Wolgamott, a 23-year-old real estate agent from St. Cloud, has announced his candidacy for Minnesota House in 2014.

Wolgamott told the St. Cloud Times he registered with the state campaign finance board on Friday as a candidate in District 14A, running for the seat currently held by Republican Rep. Tama Theis.

A high school football coach at Sauk Rapids-Rice, Wolgamott told the newspaper he's most passionate about school funding and special education.

"The biggest reason I'm running is just really to fight so every child in our community can achieve success," Wolgamott said. "I just have the feeling that now, more than ever, we need hard-working people who have a passion for our community to step up and serve."

The young candidate has already faced Rep. Theis in an election, working for the campaign of Joanne Dorsher during this year's special election.

District 14A covers parts of St. Cloud, Waite Park and St. Augusta.

YOUNGEST EVER?

Tad Jude was the youngest person elected to the Minnesota Legislature when he was elected to the House in 1972 at the age of 20. He turned 21 in December before being sworn in to office in January 1973.
