First Arctic Blast of the Season Arrives Monday

Posted: Updated:

Here we go… what many of us have been dreading for the last couple of months is on its way. The coldest air of the season will dive southward Sunday night and lead to a bone chilling commute morning commute Monday. This front will bulldoze southward all the way to the Gulf of Mexico leaving the eastern two thirds of the country shockingly cold. The front can be expected to move through the metro in and around the midnight hour with winds quickly switching out of the north and gusting to 30mph. Here is a look at the progression of the cold front from Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon with anticipated temperatures.

You can see how the cold dome of air rushes out of Canada and moves all the way through the Upper Midwest. This will leave the area quite cold through the entire day Monday. Here is a look at the probability of temperatures below freezing at noon on Monday.

Not a good sign right?? A 100 percent probability for our entire area staying below freezing Monday afternoon, but Monday morning will be even colder. Check out the current forecast from Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon for not only temperature, but also when you combine that with the wind to get the wind chill (what it actually feels like).

By far the coldest we have been in a while… in fact the coldest since the middle of March some 8 months ago. Yikes!

What's really cool though is to watch this cold air plow its way to the Gulf of Mexico over the next couple of days. Here is what one computer forecasting model has… I added the cold front as a red line so you can see the leading edge of this cold bubble. Stay warm!!!
