Strongest Typhoon this Year to Strike the Philippines Friday

Posted: Updated:

Super typhoon Haiyan will make landfall in the Philippines early Friday morning CST bringing with it 190mph sustained winds, a foot of rain, and a storm surge that could top 20 feet. One of the strongest hurricanes in years is on the far southern end of the typical Pacific Ocean tropical zone which could cause devastation through much of the Philippines who are no strangers to tropical systems. They are the most prone of any country on the planet to get one of these massive storms and get hit by one about once every year. But they typically impact the far northern islands of the country leaving much of it alone… unfortunately not this time. This typhoon will strike the heart of the country in the same area that was devastated by a large earthquake less than a month ago. Incredible images of the storm Thursday show a remarkable symmetry in one of the most photogenic storms since hurricane Katrina. But if we are comparing this to Katrina… this one is MUCH stronger. The current forecast and a couple images of this storm can be seen below courtesy of Ryan Maue and wunderground.com.
