TUESDAY NIGHT – WEDNESDAY MORNING SNOW TOTALS

Posted: Updated:
Meteorologist Steve Frazier Meteorologist Steve Frazier

We have been talking about it for days, and now that our first 1" plus snowfall has come and gone, here is a look at the totals. The totals vary widely depending on your location. As you can see from the map below, the band of accumulating snow was a narrow one, running from Southwest to Northeast.

The cold air was being filtered in from the north and the mild moist air was being pulled in form the south. That cold air was dry, so areas off to the northwest saw their totals eaten up by that dry air. Meanwhile areas to the south saw mainly rain. It was a fine line where it all came together just right to create accumulating snow.

Below are some of the more impressive snow amounts. As you can see the Twin Cities airport received over an inch, so this Tuesday goes down in the record books as the first measurable snow for the winter of 2013-2014.
