ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. -

Police opened fire on a car they say was trying to run over an officer who was breaking up a parking lot drug deal.

The Adairsville Police Department says they responded to a parking lot on Princeton Blvd. on Tuesday after being tipped off about a drug deal. They say one of the suspects used his car to ram the front end of a patrol car then struck two other parked vehicles before he turned his sights on an officer on foot.

Police say that officer fired three rounds into the car as it approached and fired several more as it tried ramming yet another police car.

Police say the driver, identified as 36-year-old Cajo Marque Harris, of Lithonia, eventually lost control and drove into a ditch.

Harris is being charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault on Peace Officer as well as several drug and traffic charges.

Varriel James Adams Jr., 40 of Atlanta, was also arrested in connection to the attempted drug transaction.

No one was seriously injured during the incident.
