SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. (FOX 32 News) -

Chicago authorities say the city's official Christmas tree will be a 57-foot Colorado blue spruce from South Holland. The tree will illuminate Daley Plaza during the holidays this year!

The massive tree will be lit on Nov. 26 during a special downtown ceremony.

This year's selected tree was submitted by the Moore family. They will join Mayor Rahm Emanuel and performers like Darlene Love to light the tree.

Terri Moore, and her daughters Kirsten and Taylor told FOX 32 News it is an honor to have their tree selected, but worry about where the resident squirrels will make their new home.

Officials with the city's Cultural Affairs Department say the tree from the Chicago suburb will be felled on Thursday. It's set to make its way to Daley Plaza on Friday.

This is the 100th year that Chicago has displayed an official tree downtown. Chicago's official tree has been donated by a single family since 2009.

In a news release, city officials said the first tree was a 35-foot Douglas Spruce that was augmented to make it look much larger.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
