CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Police are investigating a serious overnight crash Monday morning, which left six people injured - including two Chicago Police officers – in the East Side neighborhood. Alcohol was involved.

The accident began as a traffic stop, when police pulled over a Chevy Tahoe just after midnight. There were two officers in the unmarked unit that made the stop. Two other officers in a marked unit stopped by to offer assistance.

Police report a Nissan Altima smashed into the police car and set off a chain reaction. The surveillance video shows the driver was traveling at a very high speed, although police have not officially said how fast. The Nissan sustained severe damage.

The four 4th District police officers and two civilians were taken to local hospitals, including Stroger and Christ Advocate Medical Center. None of the injuries are life-threatening.

The driver of the Nissan is currently in custody. Charges are pending.

Debris remained on the road Monday morning, as authorities continue their investigation.
