St. Paul police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on Friday evening on busy Randolph Avenue as a woman was dropping a friend at home.
St. Paul woman Therese (Tracy) Klotz, 53, was dropping Dorothy Brown off at her home when she exited the driver's side of the vehicle and was struck by another vehicle.
"I feel empty. I'm sick to my stomach today. I woke up this morning thinking it was a bad dream," Brown said. "I have never seen so much blood."
Brown andKlotz had just gotten out of the car around 6:40 Friday evening, Brown on the sidewalk side, Klotz on the traffic side of busy Randolph Avenue. The pair was in the middle of a conversation when Brown heard the terrifying sound -- a thud, and then nothing.
"I thought maybe she dropped her purse or something. ‘Tracy, Tracy,' I yelled. Then I walked around the front of the car," Brown said. "And there she was. And I bent down. I told her I love her. God loved her, she was going to be okay."
Klotz was transported to Regions Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
KEY PIECE OF EVIDENCE
After hearing the thud, Brown said she saw an SUV driving east on Randolph Avenue toward 7th Street.
Investigators found a right mirror cover from the suspect SUV at the scene. It is believed to have come off a silver 2005 or newer Lexus SUV, possibly an RX300.
Police are asking anyone with information to call the St. Paul Traffic Investigations Unit at 651-266-5582.
