Marine Receives Mortgage-Free Home

Posted: Updated:
ORLANDO, FL -

A marine and his family received a mortgage-free home in Kissimmee, Florida in honor of his sacrifice and service to our country, and it comes with some special features for his daughter.

He's a hero to say the least. U.S. Marine Corporal Jeremy Kelly served two tours in Iraq from 2005 to 2008. He's received six military medals while serving America, but this patriot now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

The scars of battle are leaving a daily mark on his life.

On Saturday, a non-profit group, Building Homes For Heroes, welcomed Kelly and his family to their new house. FOX cameras were there when the family checked it out for the first time.

Chase Bank donated the home, and many friends and family showed up to thank Kelly for his service and sacrifice.

Andy Pujol, founder and president of Building Homes For Heroes, says the organization fell in love with Kelly's humility and thankfulness.

Kelly faces another obstacle. His daughter Caitlyn was diagnosed with malignant tumors in both eyes when she was 1, and she has lost her eyesight. It is tough for dad to talk about it.

"The tumor affected the right eye so as her cancer progressed she eventually lost it, "Kelly said.

Building Homes For Heroes spent $100,000 to make the house more accessible for Caitlyn.

"When we heard that his daughter was diagnosed with cancer and knowing that Kevin comes from such a good family we said, we're going to give him this home," Pujol said.

This strong family is happy to move in and is hopeful for the future.

"I can't say thank you enough. This is awesome," Kelly said.
