Greenpoint, Brooklyn, designer Elsa Kaminsky shows us how she enjoys creating with a popular app Bitstrips. She makes an avatar in her image and has the ability to turn it a computer-generated greeting card or comic strip or simply posts her mood using the avatar for her Facebook friends.

So popular is the site now -- the mobile app tracker App Annie shows Bitstrips has been the most downloaded app for Android and shot to the No. 1 app downloaded on the iPhone.

Technology expert Seth Porges explained Bitstrips' appeal but warned its popularity may be fleeting.

We tried to get the founders of Bitstrips to talk to us but their site has crashed again. Too many users caused the trouble.
