ROCKVILLE, Md. -

Police are investigating two bank robberies that occurred in Rockville Tuesday morning.

The robberies happened only a block away from each other and about an hour and a half apart. However, detectives do not believe the robberies are related at this time.

Sean Diamond was a customer inside the Wells Fargo Bank in the 100 block of Congressional Lane at around 10:58 a.m. when the men entered with guns drawn.

“It was scary, but thank God, it all happened very quickly and no one got hurt,” Diamond said.

Diamond declined to repeat in detail what he witnessed inside the bank. He told reporters detectives had asked him not to give his account to the news media.

However, Diamond's wife, Beverly, related what her husband told her over the phone.

“He called me at about 11 [a.m.] to tell me, ‘Don't get out of the car, just lock the doors, they’re shooting in the bank’ and that's when the guys got away,” she said. “I don't think anyone's been injured because there have not been any ambulances or anything, but they’re not letting anyone out of the bank.”

Police say two suspects entered the bank, approached the teller and demanded money. One of the suspects then vaulted the counter, and the other suspect fired a handgun into the ceiling. Both suspects fled from the bank without any money. No one was injured.

Police spent a couple of hours recovering evidence and taking photographs at the scene.

One block away from the Wells Fargo Bank, there was another bank robbery earlier at the SunTrust Bank drive-thru in the 1400 block of Rockville Pike at around 9:35 a.m. Police say a suspect with a handgun approached a bank teller as he was about to open the satellite drive-thru of the bank. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and then fled from the bank in a vehicle.
