Pilot dies in plane crash near Princeton, Minn.; dog survives

Posted: Updated:

A 51-year-old man was killed when a plane crashed in Princeton, Minn., on Monday afternoon.

Princeton city administrator Mark Karnowski said the pilot was the only person aboard the plane when it crashed around 12:45 p.m. about 150 yards west of the main runway.

Officials say Kevin Covlin was traveling to North Dakota to go hunting when the plane crashed. His hunting dog survived the crash.

Covlin leaves behind a wife and four children. His gym floor installation business had just been featured in the Princeton Union-Eagle newspaper the week before the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
