Al Robertson: We Wanted To Shave Them Off, But They Are Big Stars

Posted: Updated:

When Alan Robertson, the oldest brother on "Duck Dynasty,' walked onto the set of Good Day LA, the biggest shock for co-hosts Steve Edwards and Maria Sansone was that Alan had a beard!

Alan had previously said he would NEVER grow a beard.  In fact, he had told a reporter from CBN News' The 700 Club that in addition to his wife preferring him clean-shaven, he just didn't like looking at a beard in the mirror.  "I don't want to get stuck with that look, I mean, are you kidding me?"

But apparently Alan, who's also a minister, was kidding.  And as it turns out, growing a beard is a tradition for him.

"I grow one every year during hunting season.  We all do.  We all used to cut them off. But now, since they (his brothers) are such big stars and their beards are in their contracts, they have to keep them a certain length."

Is he kidding about the contracts?  You be the judge; all Alan will say is, "Their beards are about to get their own agent."

Fun Facts About Duck Dynasty (Source: Wikipedia)

1) Is an American reality television series on A&E. It shows the lives of the Robertson family, who became wealthy from their family-operated business, Duck Commander, operated in West Monroe, Louisiana, which makes products for duck hunters, primarily the duck call named Duck Commander.

2) The Robertson men, brothers Phil, Si, and Phil's sons Jase, Willie, and Jep, are known for their long beards. The business began in a family shed, where Phil Robertson spent 25 years making duck calls from Louisiana cedar trees.

3) His son Willie is now the CEO of the company. The family was previously featured on the series Benelli Presents Duck Commander and its spin-off Buck Commander, which still airs on the Outdoor Channel.

4) The show has broken several ratings records on both A&E and cable television as a whole; the fourth season premiere drew 11.8 million viewers, the most-watched nonfiction cable telecast in history.

"Duck Dynasty" airs Wednesday night at 10:00pm on A&E.
