BLAINE, Minn. (KMSP) -

A California couple is accused of stealing more than $37,000 worth of eyeglass frames from several stores in the Twin Cities metro.

Hector Astudillo, 27, and Beverly Jara, 38, were caught after a traffic stop and vehicle search near Ridgedale Mall in Minnetonka turned up 160 pairs of eyeglasses. They were each charged with felony theft earlier this week in Anoka County.

According to the charges, Astudillo and Jara stole frames from the Lenscrafters store at Northtown Mall in Blaine, and from Vision Works stores in Blaine, Crystal, Minnetonka, Roseville and St. Louis Park.

Surveillance video shows the couple putting expensive pairs of eyeglass frames in their pockets and replacing them with cheaper frames to conceal the theft.
