Police search for suspects in Lithonia carjacking

Posted: Updated:
LITHONIA, Ga. -

A Lithonia woman is thankful to be alive after a carjacking outside her apartment on Wednesday.

Joyce McCoy had just returned to her apartment parking lot from the grocery store about 7:30 p.m. when two men approached her.

"I was approached by a gentleman which put a .45 caliber to my neck and told me that he needed my vehicle, for me to get out," McCoy said.

She did as she was told and the two young men drove away on Parkview Trail with her car and other belongings.

"It was a horrific experience. That's something I never want to experience again, as far as someone having a gun to my neck," McCoy said.

The car was located miles away at an apartment complex on Redan Road near Covington Highway. McCoy's purse and cell phone were missing. Surveillance footage shows McCoy's 2002 BMW entering that apartment complex overnight.

Police hope to identify two suspects; one seen wearing a red sweater, both described as about 5'6" tall.

The car was checked for fingerprints and other evidence.

Anyone with information on the crime is urged to contact police.
