The Houston County Sheriff's Office says an apparent meth lab was discovered after an explosion that left a 50-year-old man suffering severe burns.

According to officials, the explosion occurred at about 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, and the victim, who was seeking medical treatment in La Crosse, Wis., was taken to a burn center for treatment.

A search warrant was then executed at the site, and police recovered evidence that is consistent with what would be found in an active meth lab.

Investigators are currently withholding the name of the man who was injured, and they do not plan to release additional information until the investigation is complete.

The following agencies participated in the response:

- Caledonia Ambulance and Fire Department
- Houston County Sheriff's Office
- Southeast Minnesota Gang and Narcotic Task Force
- Winona County Sheriff's Office
