First "Official" Freeze for much of the Metro... Many More to Come

Posted: Updated:

After months of above freezing numbers for metro locations, it's now time to go back to the cold. Temperatures dipped below freezing in many spots for the first time since early May marking our end to the growing season. With the Sunday storm delayed just a couple of hours, clouds cleared long enough to allow temperatures to drop into the 20's in some cases real early Sunday morning before rising back to the mid 30's by dawn. Even though the majority of the metro cracked the freeze mark, technically we did not see a freeze because the sensor at MSP airport had a low of 33. That will extend our "official" growing season all of a day because everyone will be at or below freezing for the next several nights. Here are some of the colder metro locations Sunday morning followed by the cold spots in the state.

Now of course many more of these sub-freezing temperatures are on the way, not just over the winter, but this upcoming week as well. I have showed this before, but now I'm going to give you a preview of what one computer forecasting model shows for nationwide overnight lows the next few nights starting with Monday morning and extending through Thursday morning. Remember that these computer forecasting models are just a specific interpretation of what the forecast may be, which is why the Fox 9 forecast differs slightly from these numbers. Stay warm!!
