Vikings place Harrison Smith on IR, safety out 8 weeks

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (KMSP) -

The Minnesota Vikings placed safety Harrison Smith on injured reserve Friday, which will keep him out for 8 weeks.

"I appreciate all the get well wishes, especially from the #Vikes fans," Smith posted on Twitter. "Let's get this thing going on Monday night."

Smith has a turf toe injury on his left foot, suffered in Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers. He had already been ruled out of Monday night's game in New York.

Harrison Smith has 34 tackles and two interceptions on the season. He will be by Andrew Sendejo.
