DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

A broken water main has forced police to close some lanes of a DeKalb County road.  Authorities say the break happened near Covington Highway at Hillvale Road.

All News 106.7's Carolyn Ryan reports the pipe burst underground, and the pressure cracked the concrete.  That sent water spewing onto Covington Highway.

Public works crews shut off water to the 12" main and about 500 residents had their water service affected. Water is off between DeKalb Medical Parkway and Phillips Road.

One lane of traffic is open both ways on Covington Highway, according to officials.

While the repair to the water main should be completed on Friday afternoon, DeKalb County spokesperson Burke Brennan said that the road may not be fully restored until Monday.
