DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Neighbors became worried when they hadn't seen Tyrone Brandon in about a week. They decided to pay Brandon a visit and find out what was going on, but they never expected to find what they did.

"When we got there, we walked on the side of the house, we seen him laying in the window, naked and dead, with part of his leg missing," Barbara Thomas, a neighbor, tells Fox 2's Taryn Asher.

Brandon, 52, was found naked and dead with his leg missing from the knee down. The scene was so gruesome that police would not even let his family into the home on West Parkway Street in Detroit.

"Basically we saw through the window and he wasn't clothed, his leg had been, I guess, chewed off. They had a dog. The dog was locked in bathroom," Brandon's cousin, Jamiir Williams, says.

Williams says Brandon's pet dog was found in the bathroom with the door shut. Police took the dog away as they investigate how Brandon was killed. Investigators are waiting for an autopsy to shed more light on the situation. Police say there are no signs of forced entry and, with the exception of the missing leg, are no signs of trauma that give clue to how the man may have died.

The body was already in the process of decomposition when it was discovered so police believe it may have been there for at least a few days.

"Sitting and decomposing ... and I'm thinking if the dog - if he did eat the leg - it was because it probably was hungry. It wasn't a big enough, vicious dog to really, take a grown man down like that," Williams adds.

Thomas says she last spoke to Brandon when he returned home from the hospital not too long ago. He was being treated after a bite from his 8-month-old dog got infected.

Neighbors add they never heard any trouble from the house, and call Brandon a "great guy."
