BIG COOLDOWN IS ON THE HORIZON

Its almost mid-October and we still have the 70s, but that will soon change as we head past the weekend. From 15° above average to 15° below average, our temps are about to flip flop. The first shot of cold air arrives overnight Friday into Saturday as a Low, now in Colorado, intensifies and moves to our east, pulling in cold air behind it.

COLD FRONT POSITION SATURDAY

The cold air really settles in by Sunday morning, as temps could very easily fall into the lower 40s, as the map below shows.

SURFACE TEMPERATURES SUNDAY MORNING

Now, that is the first shot, the second shot comes on Tuesday, as the same scenario plays out again. A low moves off to our northeast and once again pulls in the cold air behind it.

WEATHER MAP FOR TUESDAY SHOWS LOW MOVING OFF TO OUR NORTHEAST

This will make for a breezy and chilly Tuesday as temps fall again. Below is a map of the upper Mid-West on Tuesday. This the is 850 temp plot, the temps up above, and they are slightly above zero degrees Celsius, which will translate to just above freezing at the surface, which means some upper 30s are possible around the metro. You can also see the strong winds expected around that tight circulation. Stay warm everyone.
