The NY/NJ Host Committee and the NFL have contributed $1 million each to community-based projects in New York.

Big officials from the NFL's head office and Mayor Mike Bloomberg gathered to make an announcement Thursday.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he hopes that this financial contribution will make a difference for some of the areas that were struck by Superstorm Sandy by rebuilding facilities for kids in the five boroughs so they can remain active and healthy.

Meantime the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee President Al Kelly said he is not only expecting great things for New York's economy but also for the local businesses in New Jersey.

These are the projects (in coordination with the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City):
  • Playground renovation at Mahoney Playground (Staten Island)
  • New football field at Boys and Girls High School (Brooklyn)
  • New gym at Hammel Community Center (Rockaway Beach, Queens)
  • New football field at Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club (Bronx)
  • Nenovation of gym and teen center at Educational Alliance Boys and Girls Club (Manhattan)
  • New playground at The Sandy Ground (Rockaway, Queens)

A dance party for kids and tweens looks like a rave or perhaps a wild night at the club. But actually, many of the people at this party probably just learned how to tie their shoes. Twin brothers Tyler and Tristin recently had a FUZIPOP party in Manhattan to celebrate their 10th birthday. Never heard of a FUZIPOP party?

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and the federal prosecutor investigating political payback allegations involving the Republican's administration are both set to speak at a prisoner re-entry conference on Thursday.
Former NBA player Jayson Williams says trying to re-enter society after serving time for shooting a limousine driver was more difficult than being in prison.
