DIAMONDS IN THE SKY: Yes, it’s possible on some planets

You have heard the expression, "It's raining cats and dogs", but how about "It's raining diamonds?" Yes, that is a possibility on Saturn and Jupiter. How is this possible you ask? To better understand this theory, lets first revisit how diamonds are made. Diamonds are the result of carbon compressed under great pressure for a long time. We know this on earth to be the case and we mine our diamonds from the ground. The size of Saturn and Jupiter creates many area of great pressure, even in the atmosphere.

HIGH PRESSURES ON SATURN COULD CAUSE CARBON TO TURN TO DIAMONDS AND FALL AS RAIN

Here is how scientists believe this diamonds falling from the sky theory works. Lightning zaps methane gasses in the atmosphere and this releases the carbon atoms. These carbon atoms then collect to form carbon dust which floats around before returning to the surface of these huge planets. This dust can, in theory, get compressed upon reentry and result in a sparkly drizzle. In this case that drizzle is actually real diamonds.

SPACECRAFT COULD BE USED TO COLLECT FALLING DIAMONDS

Scientists also theorize the possibility of using spacecraft to collect the diamond precipitation. Wow, imagine the price those rocks would fetch.
