Boiler smoke sickens children at Long Island school

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Fumes from a boiler undergoing maintenance inside an elementary school on Long Island apparently sickened more than a dozen children and an adult on Thursday, police said.

The smoke inside Camp Avenue Elementary School in North Merrick made kids complain of nausea, headaches and dizziness, police said.

Ambulances from a number of agencies responded to the school to care for the sick.

Medics brought one adult and 14 children to a hospital for treatment, police said.

Officials briefly evacuated the school until the air was safe.
