Rosemount police confirmed Thursday that the bodies found following a welfare check at an apartment in the 2900 block of 146th Street West belonged to a husband and wife killed in a murder-suicide.
Officers were called to check on the couple at 5:48 p.m. on Tuesday night, but by the time responding officers arrived, 32-year-old Steven Lee Vasey Jr. and 31-year-old Melissa Vasey were already dead.
Initially, police classified the case as a death investigation since there were no indications of struggle between the couple; however, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office indicated that Melissa Vasey was the shooter.
According to the medical examiner's report, Steven Vasey Jr. suffered multiple gunshot wounds while Melissa Vasey suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police records do not indicate any prior calls to the home, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The deaths came within a month of the city's first homicide since 2010. Anarae Schunk, 20, of Burnsville, is believed to have been slain in the city of Rosemount by her ex-boyfriend, Anthony Lee Nelson (aka Shavelle Oscar Chavez-Nelson.
