Furloughed government employees picket in front of the Whipple Federal Building
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -
According to the federal workers' union, 35 to 40 employees at Ft. Snelling were furloughed Tuesday morning.
The out-of-work government employees spent part of the morning picketing in front of the Whipple Federal Building, saying the shutdown is hurting countless people.
"This isn't a free vacation. This isn't what we want," said furloughed worker Jeff Burke. "We want to go back to work, we want to help the veterans, and the message to send to Congress is if I have to do my job, you should do your job."
More federal workers in Minnesota could be out of work soon. More than 100 WIC and health department compliance officers will reportedly be furloughed on Oct. 18 if the shutdown is still going on.
