A woman who was attacked and raped in an alley managed to get away from her attacker long enough to flag down deputies early Sunday morning, according to a police report.

A deputy on patrol saw a woman leaving an alley wearing only underwear and a shirt, the report states. He then saw a man walking directly behind her.

When the deputy shined a light on them, the woman reportedly began screaming and threw her hands in the air to get the officer's attention.

The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Todd Lynn Smith, allegedly began running away from the area.

Deputies followed Smith and he was arrested about a block away.

He immediately requested a lawyer, the report reveals.

The woman told authorities she went into the alley to speak with a friend in the business next door, but no one answered the door and suddenly she heard Smith behind her.

Smith allegedly grabbed her, slammed her against the wall and then drug her into a nearby utility shed.

The report states Smith assaulted the woman and forced her to engage in sexual acts. He allegedly threatened to kill her.

During the assault, the woman told deputies Smith beat her with a wooden stick.

At some point, the woman was able to get away and that's when deputies saw her.

A wooden broom handle and blood were among evidence recorded in the report.

The woman had a cut on her leg and a swollen lump on her forehead, but refused medical attention.

Smith faces charges of sexual assault, kidnapping and aggravated assault.
