First On FOX: Gun-Toting Bandit Caught On Video In CVS Robbery

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A CVS store armed robbery is caught on camera, and police need your help to catch the gunman.

It was the terrifying scene caught on tape inside a CVS Pharmacy in Logan when a gun-toting bandit reached over the counter with his revolver and ordered a store employee to hand over the cash.

"Somebody in the neighborhood knows who this guy is. He's put everybody in danger. By doing this at 8:30, that could have been a full store. Anybody could get hurt," Lt. George McClay, of Northwest Detectives, told FOX 29 News.

The armed robber was captured on surveillance cameras from multiple angles grabbing handfuls of cash inside the store at Fifth Street and Godfrey Avenue, right across from St. Helena's Roman Catholic Church and school. Customers were shook up.

"I thought this was a pretty peaceful neighborhood, but I guess it happens everywhere," Ulysesses Whitaker said.

"People are just wicked these days," said Geraldine Fraser, who shops here with her mother all the time. She says having security cameras is a real plus, but she wants other security measures beefed up.

"Oh my God, that's terrible, it really is. They need to catch that guy, put him under the jail," she said.

Several customers commented on the armed robbery here just a week after Rite Aid Pharmacy Manager Jason McClay was gunned down in Chester. Five people have now been arrested in that case. Police say that was an inside job, set up by a store employee.

"I think they should have guards here, you know? The situation's getting kind of rough for everybody. Everybody's trying to make a living, right or wrong. But I think they should have guards in all these places to protect the customers and the people who work here," Whitaker said.

"They need to have security guards around at all times, undercover police officers," Fraser added.

"Any of these drug stores are targets," Lt. McClay explained. "They're open 'til nine o'clock at night, they're in everybody's neighborhood. A lot are open 24 hours a day. They're a tough place to work."

The suspect is described as 5-foot7-inches tall and in his early 20s. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt. He also had that distinctive "T" on his baseball cap, possibly a Texas Rangers hat.

Anyone with information can call Northwest Detectives.
