MyPhillySchools.com Logs Parents Complaints

Posted: Updated:

Parents have been protesting the Philly school district cuts for months. On Thursday, they launched a new website in order to get the state to do something about it.

This year for Tomika Anglin and her twelve-year-old daughter Simone, the classroom is at their south Philadelphia home.

"I am not willing to sacrifice her education while the district rectifies itself," Tomika said.

The Philadelphia Public School District has been under scrutiny for its 304 million dollar budget shortfall, 3000 fewer staff members and program cuts this school year.

While there have been numerous rallies and protests. Parents have not received a response from the state. They weren't required to do anything

Now parents like Anglin are putting pressure on the state and holding it accountable they launched this new website myphillyschools.com where parents, students and teachers can file complaints.

"The Department of Education is obligated to investigate every single one. The more complaints the more attention they have to pay to the city d Philadelphia, "Councilman Bill Green said.

The goal is to get the Pennsylvania Secretary of Education to examine program and curriculum deficiencies these parents believe are against the law.

Tonayia Coffer, a parent said "I am standing as a parent rep for fox chase. We submitted our complaints due to lack of nursing support."

"A new library was shut down because of a lack of a librarian," Helen Gym of Parents United said.

So far more than 250 complaints were sent in. Anglin hopes with more complaints she will get more results.

"I don't want to home school her forever. But I am going to do what's necessary to make sure she's educated, "Anglin said.

These parents are expected to mail in an additional 100 complaints by the end of the week.

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
