Great Lakes Regional Chili Cookoff returns to Plymouth on Oct. 6

PLYMOUTH, Mich. (WJBK) -

The 18th Annual Great Lakes Regional Chili Cook-off and Motorcycle Show will take place on Sunday, Oct. 6 in downtown Plymouth 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The winners will take home over $2,000 in prize money, and the chance to compete in the World Championship Chili Cookoff put on by the International Chili Society.

Just want to come and sample chili?  Over 60 different chilies will be available beginning at noon for a donation of $1 per sample.

Here are two of the featured recipes from the event:

E.G.Nick's Turkey Chili

Ingredients:
2 White Onions, small dice
1 Green Pepper, small dice
1 small stalk celery, small dice
2.5 lbs. ground turkey (brown and drain fat)
4 small cans diced tomatoes
1 small can tomato sauce
1 bottle of lite beer
8 oz. salsa
1 small can kidney beans
1 cup BBQ sauce
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp Black pepper
1/4 tsp Blackening season
1/4 tsp Granulated Garlic
1/4 tsp oregano
1/2 cup marinara sauce

Method:
Steam together onion, green pepper and celery.
Add to cooked turkey meat.
Add remaining ingredients and simmer until thickened.
