Tom Emmer hopes to represent Minnesota's 6th Congressional District, but his campaign took an unexpected turn as he inadvertently became the spokesman of a local general contractor.
In a 30-second video, Emmer promotes the quality work of Otsego-based Integrity Exteriors and Remodelers, and they used it for a TV spot.
A spokesperson for Tom Emmer said the candidate simply recorded a testimonial for the contractor a recent job well done, and had no idea it would be used as an advertisement. The campaign is also insisting it is not a political ad.
"When the storm settles, there's only one clear choice. Integrity Exteriors and Remodelers. "Hi. My name is Tom Emmer and I'm running for congress in Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District. If you're looking for someone to do remodeling, siding, or general construction, residential or commercial, I can tell you without qualification, you need to call the folks at Integrity Exteriors and Remodelers. They're the best,'" the ad says.
The video was posted on YouTube and the company soon broadcast its shiny new ad featuring Emmer's glowing testimonial.
"Integrity Exteriors and Remodelers did a wonderful job on the build out of the Emmer for Congress campaign office in Otsego. It was not Tom's intention for this testimonial to be used in broadcast advertisements and we have asked integrity to discontinue its use," a statement released by an Emmer spokesperson said.
"Tom Emmer was not paid for this ad, it was just an ad to promote our company," Andy Dahlberg, owner of Integrity Exteriors and Remodelers said. "It was an opportunity to have someone that was known give a testimony about the work we'd done."
