Children's Hospital Heroes: Kailah Franco

Posted: Updated:

In one month, you can start buying Christmas cards designed by Phoenix Children's Hospital patients.

We're introducing you to another PCH Christmas card artist. Here's Kailah's story.

10-year-old Kailah Franco is giving me a lesson in art. How to draw the perfect Christmas tree. From the right shade of green to the ornaments, this little artist knows her stuff.

It's hard to believe the road this sweet 5th grader has traveled.

She was diagnosed at the age of 7 with AML leukemia, a form of cancer that is seen mostly in older people, rare for kids her age.

She fought 9 months with the help of the doctors and nurses at Phoenix Children's Hospital. During her treatment, they made sure she felt right at home

"They were really nice. we got to do homework, there was a school there. There was an arts and crafts room that I would go every day to and draw or paint," says Kailah.

It's been 3 years now and she is in full remission. Today she is full of zest, a personality that will melt your heart.

She loves math, adores the color pink and loves to eat shrimp. She's also been able to attend Camp Rainbow twice and this year she was chosen as one of the artists for PCH's annual Christmas card fundraiser.

She was thrilled when asked to do it!

"I was excited and surprised. I said I'm going to be famous!"

She and the other artists' cards go on sale November 1, online, and at Safeway stores around the valley.

Before we parted, Kailah left this piece of advice for all the kids that are fighting right now: "I would say don't think about it just have fun."
