Plan The Perfect Game Night

Posted: Updated:

Margaret Ng was here from Zynga, the social gaming company behind 'Words With Friends' and 'Farmville'...she's showing us how to throw the perfect modern day game night.

Tip #1: Bold and Bright
Create bright, fun environmentusing pops of color inspired by the games. Mix and match colorful plates, napkins, colored pens and pencils, score cards/books. An assortment of festive glasses and tumbler for the drinks and an assortment of straws, swizzle sticks and trays. The table will also feature a MacBook Air, an iPad, iPhone, a Words With Friends board game and a children's building blocks game.

Tip #2: Eat, Drink, Play
Keep guests playing all night long with less "game breaks" by having shared food and drink stations throughout the room. Use beautiful serving containers (punch bowls, drink dispensers, cake stands) for the food and drinks that can be easily accessible to guests while playing. Gaming food must be easy food, think one-handed yum. Also, this way the host can participate in the games and not have to jump up from the table throughout the game play and serve food or pour drinks.

Tip #3: The Modern Game Night with Friends
Ever wonder what the modern canasta or bridge game is for you and your friends to get together and play? Words With Friends on your iPads or iPhones! This mobile game by Zynga is played between two people on their own devices, so make sure to tell friends to bring theirs to join in the fun.

Words With Friends is now available to expand on the already popular game, and is perfect for an interactive game night where you can invite family and friends from across the country to join in the fun. Since the game is mobile, your game night can continue long after the party is over.

For a face-to-face game experience, we have the Words With Friends board game by Hasbro. Jot down your score in your personalize score sheet or directly onto the tabletop.
There is one at every party - for your friends who love casino games - the is Hit It Rich Slots.

Tip #4: Play-up User Names!
Have a little fun and ask guests to select a "username"  or hash tag for their place card, which can serve a dual purpose as their coaster. Have blank coasters at each place setting with colorful markers so guests can customize them with a design and their game username.

Tip #5: Fierce Competition
Keep the competitive spirit by creating a system for keeping score on a table sized chalkboard or on a kraft paper table cloth at each player station. Celebrate the winning attendee or "Most Improved Player" with crowns or ribbons.

Tip #6: Don't forget the Kids
For family game night, provide an interactive, engaging activity like KRE-O CityVille Invasion by Hasbro. It's an entertaining building game for ages 7-14 and can be enjoyed for hours as the littlest guests create adventures through blocks.
