Lorenzo Pisoni & Jennifer Westfeldt: Put The Big Shoes On

Posted: Updated:

Lorenzo Pisoni had a clown for a father. That's not a shot, it's a fact. Lorenzo tells the story of being raised in a circus family in the new play "Humor Abuse". On stage, he talks about his family while performing acts and stunts...and all eyes are on him. His story is so fascinating and unusual that Jennifer Westfeldt and her beau, Jon Hamm, are producing a documentary about them and have stared a Kickstarter campaign to fund it. Check out that Kickstarter campaign HERE.

Jennifer Westfeldt: I had seen it on tape and that's when we got the idea for the documentary to sort of fill in and expand on what Lorenzo and Erica Schmidt created in this wonderful stage play.

Lorenzo Pisoni: I guess every kid wants to run away to the circus and I really wanted to run away from the circus...I think like any other kid you know what you know and you want something else."

Steve asked Lorenzo if as a kid he was embarrassed about what his family did for a living.

"When I went to high school even when I went to college I was always trying to downplay what this thing was that my parents did and what my family did."

Lorenzo also talks about knowing his father really well when it came to doing their acts...but not knowing the man off stage.

"I knew my father in a professional way, I just didn't quite understand how to connect with him on a really intimate level."

Steve also asked Lorenzo if he's ever hurt himself in this physically demanding 90 minute show and then remembered that the show must go on?

"Yes, yes, yes! It has happened, it does happen...but I think there's a work ethic with circus performers that you kind of just keep going."
