Despite high unemployment, Illinois ranked 16th wealthiest state

Illinois is in the middle of the pack when it comes to wealthy states, but its unemployment remains among the worst in the country.

The Wall Street Journal online ranks Illinois the 16th wealthiest state in America. Illinois' household income is just over $55,000 a year, but the unemployment rate is the 10th worst in the country, at almost 9 percent.

The richest state in America is Maryland with a median household income over $71,000
