BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (KMSP) -

Brooklyn Center police have confirmed a man shot his father then took his own life inside a Brooklyn Center home early Monday morning.

Police responded to reports of a shooting inside a home on the 1300 block of 72nd Avenue North at about 1 a.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, police found two adult men deceased inside.

No suspects are being sought and police say there is no danger to the public.

The mother of the gunman, who had previously been married to the victim, was shot in the arm, but police say she was not an intended target. She has since been released from the hospital.

According to police, several people were in the home at the time of the shooting. They were not injured, and it remains unclear how the mother was shot.

Witnesses inside told police the son shot and killed his father before taking his own life; however, the investigation into what prompted the outbreak of violence remains ongoing.

Aside from the three family members who were shot, three other siblings -- all over age 16 -- were in the house at the time of the shooting and are now with their mother in a hotel.
